CMS provides additional resources on hospital price transparency requirements

CMS is taking steps to ensure hospitals are prepared to comply with the revised hospital price transparency requirements in the 2024 Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) final rule.

Beginning July 1, 2024, CMS will require hospitals to do the following:

• Adopt a CMS template layout
• Encode standard charge information using CMS’ technical specifications and data dictionary

To help hospitals navigate the finalized changes, CMS recently launched a data dictionary web page that contains templates, instructions, and technical support. In addition, the agency is hosting a webinar on January 17, 2024, on the updated regulations. The webinar will demonstrate how to encode standard charge information in the CMS template layout and use the data dictionary web page.

Revenue integrity professionals should reference these resources when creating and evaluating their organization’s price transparency procedures. To ensure full compliance, review the finalized changes in the 2024 OPPS final rule and identify pertinent deadlines.
