CHOPD payments to end on July 12
CMS recently announced that the Change Healthcare/Optum Payment Disruption (CHOPD) accelerated and advance payments will conclude on July 12. The payments were initially made available in March to certain providers and suppliers experiencing claims disruptions following the cyberattack on UnitedHealth Group’s subsidiary Change Healthcare earlier this year.
CMS has issued more than $2.55 billion in CHOPD accelerated payments to over 4,200 Part A providers. The agency has also issued 4,722 CHOPD advance payments, totaling more than $717.18 million, to Part B suppliers. CMS has already recovered over 96% of these CHOPD payments.
Providers and suppliers are now successfully billing Medicare, according to CMS. After July 12, the agency will no longer accept new CHOPD payment applications. Those that continue to have billing or payment issues after this date should contact Change Healthcare and/or their Medicare Administrative Contractor.
