FY 2027 ICD-10 codes now available
Revenue integrity professionals can now download the fiscal year (FY) 2027 ICD-10 diagnosis and procedures codes effective October 1.
The new ICD-10-CM code set includes 190 additions, 30 deletions, and four revisions. The ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee did not finalize all of the changes it proposed in April, including its plan to delete C75.9 (malignant neoplasm of endocrine gland, unspecified). It also added six new codes (Z87.8901-Z87.8904, Z87.8909, and Z87.893) that describe a personal history of gender transition, all of which were not featured in its initial proposal.
The committee added codes related to Clostridioides difficile infection, body mass index, hypoglycemia, and more. Organizations are to use the new ICD-10-CM codes for discharges and patient encounters occurring from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027.
The FY 2027 ICD-10-PCS code set includes 101 additions, 38 deletions, and three revisions. Take note of the changes in the new technology section, as 50 of the new codes fall under 13 new tables.
All 38 code deletions occur in new technology tables X2K (bypass of cardiovascular system), XD2 (monitoring of the gastrointestinal system), XRG (fusion of joints), XW0 (introduction into anatomical regions), XW1 (transfusion into anatomical regions), and XXE (measurement of physiological systems).
The FY 2027 ICD-10-PCS update brings the code set to a total of 79,256 codes available for discharges occurring from October 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027.
