Symposium Spotlight: Ensure you are capturing the necessary data for your chargemaster
Editor’s note: Kay Larsen CRCR, revenue integrity specialist at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, will present “In the Trenches With the Chargemaster and Facility Charge Capture” with Sarah Goodman, MBA, CHCAF, COC, CCP, FCS, CHRI, on Day One of the Revenue Integrity Symposium: A NAHRI Virtual Event, which takes place August 17‒18. Larsen has enjoyed 17 years working in healthcare, including many years as a chargemaster coordinator.
Q: What’s the biggest challenge in revenue integrity right now? How does your session help tackle this?
Larsen: The biggest challenge is capturing data, whether it is through reports or communication with the clinical staff. During our presentation, Sarah and I will provide some ideas about how to capture the necessary data you need.
Q: What piece of advice would you like to give people about revenue integrity?
Larsen: Don’t wait for others to notify you of issues—find ways to review charges before they become issues.
Q: In what ways does your session challenge revenue integrity professionals to think outside the box?
Larsen: We will take you beyond the chargemaster to contract issues, audit findings, and payer nuances that may affect charge capture.
