New ICD-10-PCS codes effective April 1

Wednesday, January 14, 2026

CMS recently announced a slew of new ICD-10-PCS codes set to take effect on April 1. Healthcare organizations are to use these procedure codes for discharges and patient encounters occurring from April 1 to September 30, 2026.

The 80 new codes cover a variety of procedures, including cardiac device insertions, organ transfers, and endoscopic drainages. Of note, the update includes 18 new procedure codes related to wound management therapies, as well as several new codes used to report stem cell introductions.

CMS provided a description for each code, as well as Major Diagnostic Category and Medicare Severity Diagnosis-Related Group information, where applicable. Revenue integrity professionals can find the tables, index, and addenda files for the new codes on CMS’ ICD-10 web page.
