Apply for the 2024 NAHRI Scholarship

Thursday, March 28, 2024

NAHRI is pleased to announce the launch of the NAHRI Scholarship program. This scholarship awards registration to the Revenue Integrity Symposium to one recipient.

As the only professional association dedicated to revenue integrity, NAHRI is committed to supporting the professional development and ongoing education of professionals in the revenue integrity field. The NAHRI Scholarship program allows us to make our keystone networking and education opportunity, the Revenue Integrity Symposium, accessible to professionals who might not otherwise be able to attend.

Program overview

The purpose of the annual NAHRI Scholarship program is to assist revenue integrity professionals in enhancing their careers with further education and to increase collaboration among their colleagues by sharing knowledge.

Eligibility

Applicants must be active in the revenue cycle or revenue integrity field and have at least one year of experience in the revenue cycle or revenue integrity field. For the purposes of this scholarship, revenue cycle or revenue integrity may include experience in a dedicated revenue integrity department or any revenue cycle department, including, but not limited to, compliance, coding, HIM, business office, patient financial services, managed care/payer contracting, utilization management/utilization review, denials management, billing, patient access, CDI, etc. This should be supported by the applicant’s resume.

Previous NAHRI Scholarship recipients may not reapply for a period of four years. Individuals currently serving on the NAHRI Advisory Board, the NAHRI Networking and Events Committee, and the NAHRI Education Committee are not eligible. Current NAHRI staff are also not eligible.

Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and disbursed in June in the form of registration to the annual Revenue Integrity Symposium.

Application process

The application period is open now through April 29. Access the application form here. Applicants should have the following information and documents prepared before applying:

  • A copy of their most recent resume (please do not include references/supervisors and their contact information)
  • A personal statement explaining your financial need for the scholarship and how you, your organization, or community will benefit from your attendance at the Revenue Integrity Symposium. Please include your name, credentials (if applicable), job title, and a brief overview of your organization, including its size, services offered, population served, and whether it is non-profit or for-profit.
  • A letter of support from a professional contact at your organization endorsing your scholarship application. The letter should speak to the applicant’s commitment to the revenue integrity profession and support for the applicant’s attendance at the Revenue Integrity Symposium.

Applicants will not be accepted via mail or email.

Selection process

Scholarship applications will be reviewed by the NAHRI Education Committee upon the application period closing. For 2024, the application period will close April 29, and all decisions rendered and applicants notified in May.

Upon the application period’s closing, NAHRI administration will provide committee members with the completed scholarship applications along with an online evaluation matrix.

Committee members will review scholarship applications using the evaluation matrix and provide feedback on a number of candidate traits, including but not limited to:

  • Professional background and time in the revenue cycle/revenue integrity field
  • Existing educational resources and budget
  • Recommendation from professional contact
  • Overall application strength

This process may go through a series of review rounds should any candidates receive equal scores.

During committee meetings, the committee members will professionally discuss the candidates, their strengths and weaknesses, and make recommendations for which candidates move forward in the review process and potentially receive the scholarship award. Should a committee member’s colleague or friend submit a scholarship application, that committee member shall remove themselves from the conversation regarding that candidate’s eligibility and merits.

Once the scholarship committee has completed their reviews and made selections, NAHRI administration will reach out to the recipient and publicize the chosen winner.

Limitations and what the award covers

The scholarship covers only registration to 2024 RIS and is awarded in the form of registration. The scholarship does not cover the cost of travel, lodging, or other expenses that may be associated with or incurred by attendance. The scholarship will not be awarded in any form other than registration.

One scholarship will be awarded. This scholarship is not renewable. Previous scholarship recipients must wait four years before reapplying. (Note: The restrictions on reapplying do not apply to individuals who have not been awarded the scholarship. For example, if an individual applied in 2024 and did not receive the scholarship, they would be able to apply for the scholarship again in 2025.)
