by Sarah L. Goodman, MBA, CHCAF, COC, CCP, FCS

I always look forward to seeing long-time friends and colleagues at the Revenue Integrity Symposium (RIS). Often, the only time we run into each other is each year at RIS. This year’s RIS will be hosted October 15–16 in Orlando. While there are many conferences that touch upon aspects of revenue integrity, RIS is the only one entirely dedicated to the topic. Plus, it is a great way to meet other professionals in the field of revenue integrity who are facing similar challenges and have similar interests.

The general sessions are a must—particularly keynote Denise Ryan who hails from the Raleigh area like me. Depending upon your specialty or interests, there are several excellent breakout sessions from which to choose. I am especially interested in hearing Ronald L. Hirsch, MD, FACP, CHCQM,cover observation, which is always a hot topic. I am also looking forward to hearing Sheldon A. Pink, MBA, FHFMA, whom I have worked on some projects with, speak on using the revenue cycle to maximize reimbursement.

I will be presenting alongside Kay Larsen, CRCR, CHRI, and Linda J. McCray, CPA MBA, at RIS. We will discuss the chargemaster and charge capture in our session entitled, “The CDM: Tales from a CFO, Coordinator, and Consultant.” This unique panel presentation will address the role of the CDM coordinator, hospital and corporate finance staff, and outside consultants in maintaining an up-to-date chargemaster and in promoting revenue integrity in the facility setting. Please join us!

When I am not in sessions or presenting, I will likely enjoy an afternoon at Walt Disney World® or Disney Springs®. To purchase discounted tickets to the Disney parks, click here or call 407-566-5600 by October 12, 2019. After the conference, I plan to pay a visit to my aunt in St. Petersburg.

Florida sunshine, what’s not to love?!
